Biography
Greetings. I am Darren Swenson and I teach at Madison High School in Madison, SD. I grew up on a farm near Volga, SD and attended Sioux Valley High School. After graduating in 1987, I enrolled at South Dakota State University. I graduated in 1992 with a BS degree in biology and minors in chemistry and Spanish. In April of 1993, I married my wife, Kelly. She graduated in May of 1993 from SDSU.
In the summer of 1993, I took a job at Flandreau Public Schools in Flandreau, SD, teaching ninth and seventh grade science. I also coached football, wrestling and track. In 1997, I left Flandreau for a teaching position in Madison. At Madison High School, I teach physical science, environmental science and earth/space science. I also coach football. My wife is teaching in Madison at Madison Elementary as a special education teacher. We have three wonderful children: Samantha, Sydney and Daniel. When not working, I enjoy camping with my family, watching my children in their activities, hunting and fishing. I also coach my son’s football, wrestling and baseball teams.
I began my technology integration while in Flandreau using Apple computers. When I arrived in Madison, I had to learn how to operate Windows based machines. I attended TTL, TTLA and DTL to help me with this endeavor. In 2008, I enrolled in the MSET program to help me integrate the tablet pc into my curriculum.
